1. Porch Or Garden Table

2.Build a Stacked Recycling Tower

Five plastic bins, six 2x2s and screws, plus an hour's labour are all it takes to assemble this space-saving recycling rack. Our rack fits bins that have a top measuring 14-1/2 inches x 10 inches and a height of 15 inches. Our bins were manufactured by Rubbermaid. This project will really help you with storage in your garage.

If you are using different size bins, adjust the spacing between the posts so that the 2x2s catch the lip of the bin. Then adjust the spacing of the horizontal bars so they fit snugly when the bin is tilted as shown.

First cut the 2x2s to the length shown in the illustration. Then mark the position of the rungs on the posts. Drill two 5/32-inch holes through the rungs at each rung position. Drill from the outside in and angle the holes slightly so that the screws do not break out of the side of the muntins.

Drive 2-1/2-inch screws through the posts into the rungs. Assemble the front and back frames. Then connect them to the side cross braces. You want even more space in the garage?

3.Make More Storage for Small Spaces with These Two-Story Closet Shelves

In most wardrobes, there is a lot of space above the shelf. Even if it's a bit hard to reach, it's a great place to store rarely used things. Make use of this unused space by adding a second shelf above the existing one. Buy enough shelving material to match the length of the existing shelf, plus enough for two end supports and a centre support above each bracket. Shelves twelve inches wide are available in various lengths and styles at hardware shops and wood shops.

We cut the uprights 16 inches long, but you can add the second shelf at any height. Screw the end supports to the walls at both ends. Use drywall anchors if you can't hit a stud. Then mark the position of the centre uprights on the top and bottom shelves with a square and drill 5/32-inch through holes through the shelves. Screw 1-5/8-inch screws through the shelf into the uprights. You can use the same concept for storage in the garage.

4.Create an Ironing Center

To keep your ironing supplies handy but not underfoot, build this simple ironing centre in a couple of hours to bring a little order to small spaces. All you need is a 1×8 round timber, a 1×6 round timber for the shelves and a few hooks to hang the ironing board.

Cut the back, sides, shelves and top. Align the sides and measure 2 inches, 14-3/4 inches and 27-1/2 inches from the bottom to mark the bottom of the shelves. Before assembling the unit, use a jigsaw to cut a 1 inch x 1 inch dog-ear at the bottom of the sides for a decorative accent.

Glue and nail one side at a time to the back. Apply glue and hammer three 1-5/8 inch nails into each shelf, attach the other side and nail the shelves down to secure them. Staples are helpful to hold the unit together while you drive the nails. Centre the top, leaving a two inch overhang on both sides, glue and nail in place. Paint or stain the shelf, then drill pilot holes in the top of the shelf on each side and screw in the hooks to secure the ironing board. Secure the shelf to the drywall with screw anchors.
